Ok walk with me down memory lane. Remember as a kid when your church or school decided to do a *gasp* FUNDRAISER? Brings up nightmares just thinking about it. Most of my friends and I wanted nothing do with it, but then the blessed school dangled prize incentives in front of us. Like that dazzling golden locket that I just HAD to have.
So yeah, I went out every day, begging my neighbors to buy overpriced chocolate that tasted just a little bit funky. And when I finally got a neighbor to feel sorry for me and buy one, I’d reach into my little cardboard box and pull out...goop! Dang California sun had melted all my merchandise! Like I said—nightmares.
Well, it’s another generation, and luckily, the powers that be have found another, better way to hold fundraisers that won’t have kids in therapy 20 years later (mine says I’m making great progress, by the way).
Take Ugotitfirst, for example. Church need to raise money for new hymnals? School need new computers? Have your church or school register as an affiliate as a charitable foundation (in your organization of course), then have your congregation or students get the word out. Then, that charity gets money for everyone who signs up and starts downloading and using coupons!
And don’t forget, you’re earning a good amount of pocket change as well!
Ok now let’s compare...trying to sell funky melted chocolates, or giving people a free way to contribute AND save some money? Hmmm...tough choice.
Oh yeah, I finally got that gold locket. Turned my neck green the first day...oi.
*Off to make another appointment with my therapist.
